CNO Summer Interns Connect, Explore Values Through Service on National Intern Day 2021
July 2021

CNO Financial Group partnered with Project Helping, an organization focused on creating impactful volunteer events and service opportunities, to provide at-home volunteer service opportunities in recognition of National Intern Day.

The 27 summer CNO interns created “Kynd Kits,” Project Helping’s new program to support remote volunteering. The Kynd Kit program delivers boxes with supplies to do a meaningful project for someone in need. Once assembled, they are mailed back to be dispersed to their non-profit partners.

“The service event was a great opportunity for the interns to live CNO’s giving mission: supporting our communities, customers and associates through organizations that address the health and financial wellness of middle-income Americans all from home,” said Elizabeth Kinder, director, community relations.

The interns prepared three types of kits:

  • Career Readiness Kit: Make an interview prep care package for Dress for Success program participants.
  • Essential Workers Kit: Build a care package for an essential frontline worker.
  • Financial Literacy Kit: Create a financial literacy kit for Boys and Girls Club’s Money Matters program participants.

“The service event gave me the ability to make an impact in the community from the safety of my home which I really appreciated,” said Filza Mundh, actuarial intern from X university. “It was also a way for all the interns to get together and bond, which was really fun especially since we are all working remotely."

Stephanie Dehne, CNO’s human resources intern, served as a key partner in the service activity planning alongside the Community Relations team, providing valuable experience.

“Managing the event planning for National Intern Day has been a very rewarding experience within my summer internship,” Dehne said. “Coordinating the various details of the National Intern Day celebration has been a great way to further develop my communication, leadership and teamwork skills.”
