Bankers Life and Casualty Company Supports Alzheimer's Association with Over $250,000

CHICAGO

CHICAGO, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Through its annual street corner fundraiser and a separate corporate donation, Bankers Life and Casualty Company is supporting the Alzheimer's Association with over $250,000.

Bankers' annual Forget Me Not Days® event raised just over $167,000 for local chapters of the Alzheimer's Association. In addition, Bankers recognized the Association on a national level with a $100,000 unrestricted donation to aid in the support of the Association's mission.

"Bankers customers are America's seniors," said Scott Perry, president of Bankers. "Our research has shown that the fear of contracting Alzheimer's is the number one fear of aging. Our longstanding partnership with the Alzheimer's Association is important to help us support our customers by engaging in the issues that concern them the most."

In its fifth record-breaking year, Forget Me Not Days saw more than 1,000 Bankers volunteers collect donations at locations in over 90 U.S. cities on May 18 and 19. Donations stay in the community, with one-hundred percent of the proceeds funding local Alzheimer's Association chapter programs and services.

"We're very proud of the support that we've been able to offer the Association," said Perry. "Their goals of increasing awareness, supporting caregivers and funding research are in the best interests of all seniors and go hand in hand with our own commitment to the senior market."

"As a business actively involved with senior Americans, Bankers is a much- needed partner to the Alzheimer's Association," said Mark Germano, of the Alzheimer's Association. "They understand the devastation that Alzheimer's has on its victims and their loved ones."

Ninety-five percent of what we know about Alzheimer's has been discovered in the last 15 years, and Germano says the Association has made possible a new hope for achieving major breakthroughs and real progress toward prevention in the near future.

"The Forget Me Not Days event is important to raise the public's awareness of Alzheimer's and to help us fund local programs and services that improve care for those with the disease," said Germano. "With the help of their unrestricted gift of $100,000, we can continue to make significant strides in advancing research on prevention and treatment, improving services and care for families living with the disease, and mobilizing support among policy makers."
