Carmel, Ind., July 24, 2006: Conseco, Inc. (NYSE:CNO) today announced that Brian Wegner has joined the company as vice president, managed care operations.

“Brian has extensive experience helping insurance companies reduce expenses, enhance growth and profitability, improve service, meet short-term needs and develop and implement innovative long-term strategies,?? said John Wells, Senior Vice President of Operations for Conseco’s Bankers Life and Casualty unit. “His focus will be on improving efficiencies and common leading practices.??

Wegner will be responsible for managing Conseco’s Ft. Lauderdale case management office, which supports the closed long-term care block of business.

Wegner joins Conseco from Business Strategy Group Consulting, an executive management consulting firm, where he served as founder and president. In his role, Wegner developed and executed the concept and business plan for the company, and focused on development and implementation of business and IT strategies in the insurance and financial services industry. He previously spent 14 years at Fortis/Fortis Health, holding various positions including vice president of operations and chief information officer.

Wegner holds a BS in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, and an AD in information systems from Waukesha County Technical College. He is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) and earned the Health Insurance Associate (HIA) designation from AHIP.
