CNO Financial Group hosts Habitat for Humanity panel build June 4

CARMEL, Ind., May 26, 2010 – Employees of CNO Financial Group (NYSE: CNO) will join forces with Habitat for Humanity for Greater Indianapolis to build the panels for two Habitat homes on Friday, June 4, on CNO’s campus.

CNO is sponsoring the project, and more than 300 CNO employees will be volunteering in 90-minute shifts to assemble the interior and exterior walls of the homes.  By 12:30pm, the walls will be put together and the framed houses will be standing in the parking lot of CNO’s Conference Center, located on College Drive just east of Pennsylvania Street in Carmel.

Representatives of the news media are invited to attend and meet the CNO volunteers, led by CNO Co-Captains Tracy Gillen and Tom Heck, together with the two families whose homes will be assembled:

·          The Short and Hernandez family: parents Dawn Short and Paul Hernandez and child Lydia Hernandez

·          ShaDonna Crittenden

It will be a festive environment, with refreshments and DJ music for the volunteers, who will also have an opportunity to add a personal touch by writing their names or messages to the homeowners on the 2x4s that will become permanent parts of the homes.

This will be Team CNO’s fourth volunteer project (and third panel build) with Habitat:

·          In June 2009, 304 Team CNO volunteers donated 712 volunteer hours to build panels for two new Habitat homes.

·          In May 2008, more than 175 CNO employees built panels for a Habitat home.

·          In July 2007, Team CNO participated in Habitat's summer build project, providing 24 volunteers at a build site to assist with siding, baseboards, attic access and painting.  In addition, eight Team CNO volunteers helped with the hospitality station, and 11 others staffed Habitat's ReStore, arranging and restocking shelves with donated materials to be used for home improvements in Indianapolis.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis is committed to eliminating poverty housing and making home ownership available to very low-income families, most of whom have children and live in unsafe, overcrowded or substandard conditions. Each qualified low-income family must meet Habitat’s income and credit history criteria, as well as agree to invest 450 hours in budget education classes and assist with the building of their own home.  Each family must also make monthly mortgage payments with a no-interest loan.  Through cooperative partnerships with volunteers, churches, corporations, foundations and builders, Habitat is able to make the dream of homeownership a reality.
