Garner Joins Conseco as Senior Vice President

Carmel, Ind., October 30, 2006: Conseco, Inc. (NYSE:CNO) today announced that Richard Garner has joined the company as senior vice president, health product management.

“Dick’s broad industry experience managing product development, maintenance and profitability, as well as leading actuaries and product specialists, will make him a strong addition to the product development and management team,?? said Chris Nickele, executive vice president of new product development for Conseco.

Garner is responsible for managing all health product work within the product development and management area, including product strategy, new product development, and rate management for all Conseco enterprise health product lines – Medicare supplement, long-term care and supplemental health/specified disease.

Garner is joining Conseco from American Republic and World Insurance Companies, where he spent four years as Vice President and Chief Actuary. Prior to that, he spent 32 years at CNA Insurance in a variety of roles, most recently as Senior Vice President of CNA Group Benefits Special Markets. He also held the positions of Senior Vice President of CNA Long Term Care Strategic Alliances and Vice President/Actuary of Life, Health, Pension Product Management.

Garner holds a BA in mathematics from Knox College and an MS in actuarial science from the University of Michigan. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist.
