Monroy Promoted to VP of Distribution and Operations Strategy and Chief of Staff to COO of Bankers Life and Casualty Company

Chicago, Ill., February 10, 2005 -- Gerardo Monroy, 37, has been promoted to the new position of Vice President Career Distribution and Operations Strategy of Bankers Life and Casualty Company, Chicago. He will also serve as Chief of Staff for Distribution and Operations, reporting to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Scott Perry.

In his previous position as Vice President of Distribution Strategy, he served as a key strategist for the most ambitious growth plan in Bankers 125-year history. During a 16-month period, Monroy was an integral player in this major insurance company's expansion of its field operations, increasing the size of its captive agent force to over 4,000 and the number of branch offices to 160 in 49 states.

"This change recognizes Gerardo's contributions to Banker's distribution organization for the last two years," said Perry in announcing the promotion. "He'll play a critical role in aligning key initiatives between the Distribution and Operations organizations to help us meet and exceed our 2005 goals."

In his new role, Monroy will be responsible for the development and implementation of Career Distribution and Operations strategies, leading the analysis needed to help manage the company's most critical initiatives.

As chief of staff, he will direct activities involving the sales force, operations and home office support, positively affecting almost 2,000 employees.

After joining Bankers parent company, Conseco, Inc., in 2001 as a vice president in the Corporate Marketing group, Monroy took over as vice president of Distribution Strategy in July 2002. A native of Mexico City, he has worked for international corporations in Mexico and Italy including Procter & Gamble and United Technologies. He holds an MBA from Harvard University and lives in Chicago with his wife, Ivette, and their twin daughters Regina and Isabella, six-months old.
