CARMEL, Ind., Feb. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington National Insurance Company, a national provider of supplemental health and life insurance products for middle-income Americans, is pleased to announce that it will serve as the title sponsor of the Wounded Warrior Amputees vs. NFL Stars Flag Football Game on February 1, 2012.

The event, scheduled to kick off at 6:00 pm at the Indianapolis Indoor Sports Park, is a key part of the festivities leading up to Super Bowl XLVI.

A team of Wounded Warrior amputees will take the field against ex-NFL players for a game of flag football to raise money and awareness for veterans and active duty soldiers who have lost limbs during military service in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The event will also give the veterans the opportunity to showcase their athletic talents.

"WWAST team members are looking forward to playing football with the NFL stars which allows them to show their competitive spirit and their recovery from severe injuries," said David Van Sleet, WWAST founder and coach.  "The WWAST greatly appreciates the Washington National sponsorship which makes this game possible."

"Washington National is pleased to support such a worthy event and are proud to support the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom," said Steve Stecher, president of Washington National Insurance Company.

Four-time Super Bowl champion and Vietnam veteran Rocky Bleier will be hosting the event.  Major General Martin Umbarger of the Indiana National Guard will command the veteran team, and Super Bowl winning coach Dick Vermeil will helm the NFL alumni team.   Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, a retired U.S. Marine lieutenant colonel, will officiate the game.

Participating NFL stars to include Indianapolis native Jeff George, who will be the quarterback for the Wounded Warrior Amputees, Hall-of-Famer Jack Youngblood and Packer legend Jerry Kramer.

In addition to the game, there will be a chance for autograph signing and photo opportunity with the NFL stars and members of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team.
