Conseco Insurance Promotes Matt Zimpfer to Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel

Carmel, Ind.: April 12, 2005 — Conseco Insurance announced that Matthew J. Zimpfer has been promoted to senior vice president and associate general counsel for the Conseco insurance companies based in Carmel, Indiana.

In his role, Zimpfer is responsible for managing the legal operations department, which provides advice and counsel for Conseco Insurance on day-to-day operational issues. He serves as Conseco Insurance’s labor and employment counsel and oversees Conseco’s privacy office to ensure overall compliance with federal and state privacy laws. Zimpfer also manages the company’s special investigation unit—a team that investigates and reports fraudulent activities involving policyholders, agents and employees.

Zimpfer reports to Jim Hohmann, executive vice president and chief administrative officer. “Matt’s promotion to senior vice president is an acknowledgement of his substantial and ongoing contributions to Conseco’s transformation,” Hohmann said.

Zimpfer joined Conseco as an assistant vice president in 1998 and served in officer-level positions in the company’s litigation department. In 2001 he was promoted to vice president and associate general counsel. Prior to Conseco, Zimpfer practiced law from 1993 to 1998 with Zimpfer, Klineman & Wright, P.C. and White & Raub, P.C. He also worked for a short time as an area casualty claims specialist for Progressive Insurance Company.

Zimpfer holds a bachelor’s degree in history/political science from Butler University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Indiana University and is a member of both the Indiana Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

The Conseco insurance companies serve nearly 5 million customers across America. Conseco’s cancer, heart/stroke, accident and Medicare supplement policies protect people against major unplanned expenses; Conseco’s annuities and life insurance products help people plan for their financial futures.
